Grit & Gold

“Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm; for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame.
Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot sweep it away. If one were to give all the wealth of one’s house for love, it would be utterly scorned.”

Song of Solomon 6:6-7

These untrodden paths
Of Love, a maze
Of grit and gold;

Winding upwards,
Crossroads, sign posts…
Do ‘all roads lead to Rome’?

Risking the unknown,
We breathe in deep –
Together, strong.

A dogged climb
For days on end,
Wearied to the bone.

Dizzying summits,
Where stars are a-swirl,
Laughter ebbs and flows.

Valleys appear –
They swallow us;
Fear spills down in tears.

Barbed wire words
rip ragged wounds;
Silence wages war.

“Follow the narrow,
higher path” He
whispers, “I am there”.

In dust and sweat,
We tread the track
in search of treasure, rare.

Aching, hoping,
pendulum desire…
Where will all this lead?

A rose unfurls
in gentle rain,
Each petal pure, perfect.

Beauty arrests
our withered souls,
filling every fibre.

You pull me close –
All tension drains,
rinses off us, clean.

Hope gleams bright
and brighter still;
infusing faded dreams.

Doubt, like mist at dawn
Disperses; Look!
How far we’ve come.

This love – a fight,
an ease, a storm;
It cannot be undone.

With you, my heart
and soul are knit,
in mysteries unknown.

These paths of Love
we choose to tread
have now become our Home.
